Indication of anomalous heat energy production in a reactor device

(Submitted on 16 May 2013)

An experimental investigation of possible anomalous heat production in a special type of reactor tube named E-Cat HT is carried out. The reactor tube is charged with a small amount of hydrogen loaded nickel powder plus some additives. The reaction is primarily initiated by heat from resistor coils inside the reactor tube. Measurement of the produced heat was performed with high-resolution thermal imaging cameras, recording data every second from the hot reactor tube. The measurements of electrical power input were performed with a large bandwidth three-phase power analyzer. Data were collected in two experimental runs lasting 96 and 116 hours, respectively. An anomalous heat production was indicated in both experiments. The 116-hour experiment also included a calibration of the experimental set-up without the active charge present in the E-Cat HT. In this case, no extra heat was generated beyond the expected heat from the electric input. Computed volumetric and gravimetric energy densities were found to be far above those of any known chemical source. Even by the most conservative assumptions as to the errors in the measurements, the result is still one order of magnitude greater than conventional energy.

According to the March 10, 2013 report by

Dr. Frank Lichtenberg / Physicist – ETH/Zurich:

The ECAT technology is based on Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR). ECAT reactors generate a large amount of heat energy when small amounts of hydrogen, special nickel powder and an undisclosed material are combined. About 50 g nickel are able to generate a permanent power of 10 kW for 6 months. About 1 percent of the annual world nickel production would be sufficient to provide the energy needs of mankind. This high efficiency results from nuclear reactions whose involved nuclear forces / strong interactions yield much more energy compared to chemical reactions, such as combustion processes, which are based on electromagnetic forces / interactions. However, in contrast to conventional nuclear technologies, the ECAT reactors are environmentally friendly because they do not involve radioactive materials, do not produce radioactive waste, and weak gamma rays can easily be shielded. Furthermore, they do not produce any exhaust gases.

ECAT power plants were already produced, tested, certified and represent presently the first
commercially available LENR-based energy technology. Every 6 months it is necessary to
replace the relatively small amounts of nickel and hydrogen. The nickel is largely recyclable.

The first-generation ECAT is offered as 1 MW power plant. It generates heat energy in form of hot water with a temperature up to 120 °C. It is appropriate for industrial heating and cooling applications. Its COP is 6, i.e. the generated heat energy is 6 times higher than the electric energy which is required to operate the ECAT power plant (COP = Coefficient of Performance). Several of such power plants run failure-free since February 2012. The present price of a 1 MW power plant is 1,5 Mio. USD and it pays itself off after about 4 years.

The second-generation ECAT, also called high temperature ECAT or Hot-ECAT, is offered as a 10 MW power plant. It generates heat energy in form of hot water with a temperature above 120 °C or high temperature steam. It is appropriate for industrial heating applications or an efficient conversion into electricity. Its COP is also 6. The first putting into operation of a power plant which generates electricity at the location of a customer is scheduled for April 2013.

The commercial availability of small 10 kW home units, which can be added to already existing heating systems, is scheduled for 2015.

This is about the best scenario in clean energy news, and my wish is that we are near the finish of the dangerous and polluting, nuclear fission/fossil fuel era.  The applications for this new technology are limitless.  On to the future!

The independent testing of The Andrea Rossi Hot Cat is now complete.  On his Journal of Nuclear Physics blog, Andrea Rossi has signaled a very positive result.

”The last test was completed with the continued operation of the reactor for 120 hours (the new generation of Hot-Cat goes through two stages, carried out with an activator with resistance coupled with a kind charges that activate the E-Cat with a different charge). effect is stunning and we saw it with our tests, all this has been replicated with independent testing. Now for industrial commitments, we deliver our plants by the end of April. “

The test results should be available in short order.  Now the fun begins!

Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer), does not give a large number of interviews (we know of three in the past year). He is far too busy putting in often 14-16 hour days preparing for the production of one million, ten kilowatt units for home use. However, on the anniversary of the first press conference about the E-Cat technology that took place January 14, 2011, he graciously allowed for an interview that turned out to be very revealing. During the interview many questions were answered, and a few revelations were made about the development of the E-Cat technology.

Cold fusion has been making a comeback this year.

From being regarded as a largely dead science, cold fusion has grabbed the attention of mainstream media and the scientific community when high-profile demonstrations in Italy allegedly showed a cold fusion device generating 470 watts for five hours. The device, called the E-Cat or Energy Catalyzer was developed by Andrea Rossi, Italian inventor and entrepreneur and Sergio Focardi, a physicist at the University of Bologna. The E-Cat reportedly fuses nickel and hydrogen at low temperatures to release heat energy and shows that cold fusions isn’t as dead as many scientists seem to think.

Cold fusion or Low Energy Nuclear Reaction is the process by which energy is produced by nuclear fusion through electrolysis. Cold fusion is largely shunned by mainstream science because fusion only occurs at temperatures of millions of degrees. Rossi’s E-Cat uses a special catalyst to fuse hydrogen with nickel to produce enough heat to boil water. The steam produced is used to turn turbines that will generate electricity. It’s a system that if proven could lead to clean and cheap source of energy. Since this technology could bring about free energy, there are scientists who would brave ridicule to look into this area. Rossi’s method isn’t the only LENR device around. More competitors are looking to unleash cold fusion technology to the world.

ECAT.com – Andrea Rossi’s Energy Catalyzer, E-Cat

Cold fusion is a subject that has been debated for many years, but what used to be a discussion about research has now moved on to the next level where products based on cold fusion technology are at the centre. Many consider the term LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reaction) to be a more accurate description of the physical reaction which is producing the excess energy observed by a large number of independent researchers and scientists.

Cold fusion, or LENR, has been recognized by the scientific community for decades, but only now has a continuous and stable output of several kilowatts been successfully generated. Andrea Rossi is the man behind the final leap. It took him almost 18 years to develop the Energy Catalyzer (E-CAT), a device which produces excess heat and which will be the core of a new product range in the energy sector. With a completely green technology leaving neither toxic nor radioactive waste, Rossi’s ECAT has the potential to be the solution to the global energy problem. During 2011/2012, ECAT.com will collect pre-orders and provide answers to inquires from potential customers. Due to the high expected demand for ECAT products, orders will be put on a waiting list and delivery is scheduled for 2012 (depending on product).

ECAT Home Units

Home ECAT units will not be available until 2012-2013 due to rigid testing, certification and regulation processes. The 3D-rendering below is a hypothetical image what it could look like for domestic use.

If you are interested in knowing more about this device for your home, please use our contact form to the right to sign up for the pre-order list. The sign-up is non-binding which means that you will be prioritized for delivery once the product is rolled out – but you are in no way committed to buy the product.

The Andrea Rossi energy catalyzer was mentioned in an article today in The Economic Voice.  The article was titled, Protect yourself from rising radiation levels, by Philip Ridley.  In a section describing alternatives, Ridley cites the E-Cat.

Alternatives to radioactive “prosperity”

Andrea Rossi recently demonstrated that cold fusion is viable, with a demonstration of his E-Cat cold fusion generator in Italy. This potentially safe technology would provide unlimited cheap energy utilizing a proprietary catalyst to make nuclear fusion occur at a safe temperature.

The skeptical slant of the article does nothing but place doubt in the mind of the reader.  The E-cat has been repeatedly tested and verified by many physicists; including representatives of the Swedish Skeptics Society, Professor Emeritus Sergio Focardi of the university of Bologna and others.  While skepticism is necessary regarding such a profound discovery, there comes a point where the proof wins out over the armchair.  The E-cat is definitely NOT a hoax.  In fact, it is now commercially available.  Skeptics can buy one and test it all they want.  Clean energy has arrived!

Italian scientist claims he has achieved ‘cold fusion’ – the only problem is that most physicists think it is impossible (Daily Mail Online)

True or false? Andrea Rossi says he has built a machine achieving 'cold fusion' but scientists question if it is possible

An Italian physicist claims he has managed to achieve ‘cold fusion’ – a procedure that could solve the world’s energy crisis by creating huge amounts of safe nuclear energy without dangerous radiation.

Andrea Rossi says his new machine fuses nickel and hydrogen at room temperature creating almost unlimited energy.

But there is one problem – many scientists claim it defies the very laws of physics. Several high-profile demonstrations of ‘cold fusion’ have been proven to be hoaxes in the past – and no one can adequately explain how or why it might work.

The United States Department of Energy the U.S. Patent Office say the process is impossible because physics rules out the possibility of room-temperature nuclear fusion.

But Rossi’s E-Cat machine can allegedly do it, and he says he proved it worked during tests at the University of Bologna last month.

‘With low energy, it’s possible to give a heater a certain amount of energy and to get from the same heater a superior amount of energy,’ he said.

‘The heat is initiated by electrical resistance. The reactors then produce another 479kWh of energy for another three to four hours without needing that initial electrical input — the low-level nuclear reaction continues on its own.

‘The test we made by the customer was to see if the process was working properly, and to control whether the energy was in an amount superior to the amount supplied to the system.

‘We have nothing to say, just to make plans that work properly and let those facts win against the scepticism.’

The idea of cold fusion was put forward by in the 1920s by Austrian scientists Friedrich Paneth and Kurt Peters.

But despite several people saying they have done it, it has been dismissed by most physicists.

Scientists say that Rossi’s claims must be taken from his lab and analysed before he can claim he has done it.

Energy consultant Jonathan Koomey said ‘[The E-Cat experiment] should be treated as a hoax until independent scientists are able to replicate these results,’

But Sterling Allan, CEO of the alternative energy news agency Pure Energy Systems, told FoxNews.com he attended Rossi’s demonstration and the E-Cat is self sustaining.

‘What Rossi demonstrated was 470 kilowatts of continuous output in self-sustain mode — meaning the output was enough to keep the thing running on its own,’ he said.

Yesterday, Fox News posted a report on the Andrea Rossi energy catalyzer, which was aptly critiqued by Hank Mills of Pure Energy Systems.  Now today, it’s rival MSNBC has gotten into the act.  Maybe, the AP reporter who actually attended the October 28th test in Bolohna Italy, will finally be given the green light to file a report.

Italian cold fusion machine passes another test
Despite a world of skepticism about E-Cat and other devices, proof is adding up

By Natalie Wolchover/msnbc.com

Italian physicist and inventor Andrea Rossi has conducted a public demonstration of his “cold fusion” machine, the E-Cat, at the University of Bologna, showing that a small amount of input energy drives an unexplained reaction between atoms of hydrogen and nickel that leads to a large outpouring of energy, more than 10 times what was put in.

The first seemingly successful cold fusion experiment was reported two decades ago, but the process has forever been met with heavy skepticism. It’s a seemingly impossible process in which two types of atoms, typically a light element and a heavier metal, seem to fuse together, releasing pure heat that can be converted into electricity. The process is an attractive energy solution for two reasons: Unlike in nuclear fission, the reaction doesn’t give off dangerous radiation. Unlike the fusion processes that take place in the sun, cold fusion doesn’t require extremely high temperatures.
